Answers about joining, posting work, sharing your skills and using your account.
Your account.
Can I hire people and offer my own skills?
Yes. The same account can do both. After joining, you can post jobs and add a helper profile to offer services or apply for work.
How old do I need to be?
You must be at least 18 years old to join HourHelpers. Local services may also have separate eligibility, licensing or safeguarding requirements.
Why can’t I log in after signing up?
New accounts need email activation. Check your inbox and spam folder for the activation email, open the link and confirm activation. Then return to Log in. If the link has expired or did not arrive, use Resend activation email from the login page.
What if I forget my password?
Use Forgot password and enter the email address on your account. Follow the emailed reset link. Never send your password or a reset link to another member or to support.
Can I change my name or email address?
You can edit your first and last names in Your profile. Public helper cards use your first name and the first initial of your last name. Email changes need support: contact hello@hourhelpers.com from the current account address where possible.
Your skills and photographs.
How do I add a profile photo or banner?
Open Your profile, your helper-profile editor or your own public profile. Click the photo or banner area, choose an image, review the preview and save it. Profile photos must be JPEG files up to 1 MB; banners must be JPEG files up to 5 MB. Your photo is cropped to a square and your banner to a wide 4:1 shape. Both are public.
Why was my image rejected?
Use a genuine JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg); renaming a PNG or WebP file does not convert it. Check the file size. Images must be at least 32 pixels on each side, no more than 8192 pixels on either side and no more than 16 megapixels. Export a smaller JPEG if the upload still fails.
How do I appear in a category?
Add the relevant categories to your helper profile, then choose accurate skills and describe your experience. When creating a service, choose one of your profile’s categories. Use an area or city for local work rather than publishing a full home address.
What do ratings and earnings show?
Ratings come from recorded project reviews and are displayed out of five with a review count. Paid earnings show settled payouts recorded on HourHelpers. A quoted price or agreed project value is not paid earnings. Time exchanges and volunteering do not create cash earnings.
Can I download a CV of my completed projects?
Yes. Open My project CV from your account menu or dashboard. Every completed project you were involved in is selected initially, including paid work, direct time exchanges and volunteering. Untick anything you want to leave out, then download PDF, Word (.docx) or Excel (.xlsx). Your role is stated for each project, including work you organised. You can filter by completion date or choose Work I provided. For more than 250 projects, narrow the date range and make separate downloads.
Jobs, services and volunteering.
Can I save a job before publishing it?
Yes. Use Save draft while preparing your brief. A draft stays with your account. Publishing a public job makes it discoverable; a private brief stays with its owner. Keep passwords and sensitive personal information out of all briefs.
How do I add a logo or photo to jobs I post?
Add or change your account profile photo in Your profile. Jobs reuse this image in a small square: we suggest a company logo for a company account, or your profile photo for an individual. Use a square JPEG up to 1 MB. Job listings do not display your profile banner. Changing the account image also updates the image on your existing jobs.
How do I request a service?
Open a listed service, read the scope and send a clear request. The request creates a workroom for the two people. Work begins after the helper accepts it and the details are agreed.
How does an hour-for-an-hour exchange work?
Choose time as the exchange type and describe the work offered in return. Both people explicitly agree to the two tasks and equal time. Each submits their work separately and reviews the other person’s delivery. Both deliveries must be accepted to complete the exchange.
Can I save hours to spend with somebody else?
No. This is a direct exchange between the two people who agree the work. There is no transferable time wallet or community credit balance.
Does HourHelpers take payment or hold money?
No. The current service does not process payments, hold funds, provide escrow or issue payouts. Arrange any money payment directly with the other person. The standard completion commission for new paid agreements is 1%; existing agreements retain their recorded rate. Volunteering, unpaid work and direct time exchanges have 0% commission. These fees are calculations only; no platform fee is collected by this version.
Why can’t I apply to a sample listing?
A listing marked Sample listing is a fictional example for previewing the marketplace. Sample accounts cannot log in and their jobs do not accept real proposals.
When something needs attention.
What should I do if the work is not as agreed?
Explain the difference in the workroom and use the available request-changes controls. For a time exchange, raising an issue pauses delivery acceptance; cancellation needs both people’s agreement. Contact support with the relevant workroom or job number if you need help. This is not an automated refund service.
Does a childcare-check label mean someone is safe to hire?
No. A current review label records a specific review scope, jurisdiction, scheme and dates. Check the actual arrangement, identity, references and current evidence before hiring. Read the safeguarding guidance and the rules where the work happens.
How do I report a scam, profile or technical problem?
Email hello@hourhelpers.com with the page link, relevant job or workroom number and a short description. For a technical problem, include the steps you took and any error text. Do not send passwords, login codes, payment details or criminal-record documents.
