A CLEAR PLACE TO START

Terms of use.

HourHelpers connects people and companies who need help with those who offer it. Use the service honestly, respectfully and within the law.

Your account

You must be at least 18 years old to be a member. Provide accurate account details, keep your password private and use only accounts you are authorised to access. You are responsible for the briefs, proposals, services and messages you publish.

Agreeing the work

Requesters and helpers must agree the scope, whether the arrangement is paid work, time exchange or volunteering, the timing, deliverables and any relevant AI use before work begins. Accepting a proposal records that agreement and opens a shared workroom. Only accept work once you have reviewed it against the agreed criteria.

Direct time exchange

You can agree to exchange equal amounts of time directly with the other person instead of money. Both tasks, each person’s time commitment and any separate expenses must be clear before both people accept. There is no transferable credit balance. Each person submits their own work and the other accepts it; the exchange completes only when both sides are accepted. Raising a dispute freezes delivery acceptance until it is resolved; cancellation requires both parties’ agreement.

Time exchange is not a promise of tax exemption or exemption from registration, safeguarding or other local rules. Review the time-exchange guide and safer-work guidance before starting.

Volunteering

Volunteering is freely chosen, unpaid help with no payment or return service expected. Both participants must explicitly agree to that arrangement. Either participant may end it at any time through the workroom; the existing agreement, messages and deliveries remain recorded. Coordinate a safe handover where needed and never leave a dependent person without appropriate care.

A “volunteer” label does not determine employment status or remove minimum-wage, safeguarding, licensing, insurance or other local requirements. Do not use volunteering to avoid obligations for work that must legally be paid. Check the volunteering guidance and applicable rules before agreeing. No money earnings, time credits or completion commission are recorded for volunteering.

Company accounts

A company account is managed by an adult representative who confirms they are authorised to act for the company. Its full company name, website if supplied, logo and public profile are shown to other members. The representative’s account name is kept private from public company identity displays. Company names, websites and optional registration details are supplied by the account holder; a “Company account” label does not mean the business, its staff or qualifications have been verified.

Companies remain responsible for authority to enter agreements, identifying who will carry out the work, and checking any required staff qualifications, insurance or licences. Personal childcare-check reviews are not transferable to a company or its staff.

Payments and fees

This version does not process payments, hold funds, provide escrow or pay helpers. Any payment arrangement must be made separately between the parties. New paid agreements use a 1% completion commission. Existing agreements retain their recorded rate. Volunteering, unpaid work and direct time exchanges have 0% commission. This is a calculation only; no platform fee is collected by this version.

Suitable and lawful work

Do not post illegal, deceptive or harmful requests, infringe another person’s rights, impersonate others or expose private information. Local work may require insurance, qualifications, background checks or other safeguards. Listing a category or profile does not mean HourHelpers has verified a person’s qualifications or suitability.

Sample listings

Records marked “Sample listing” are fictional examples. Their accounts cannot sign in and their projects do not accept real proposals.

Disagreements and support

Use the workroom to clarify scope and raise concerns early. Contact the site operator if you need help with misuse or an account problem. This version does not offer an automated payment dispute or refund service.
